it's snowing! it's snowing! we're having a real snow!
sorry, northerners, but down here in dixie this is a BIG deal.
the very minute the snow started falling for real i put out a bowl to catch some snow to make snow ice cream. it is so simple, and it tastes so delicious, that it will really spoil you for any other kind except for other homemade ice creams.
you need some snow--some sugar--some vanilla extract--some milk.
sprinkle some sugar on your snow and then put in just a capful of vanilla extract. then just a splash of milk--any more than that and you will have snow soup. mix it all together, toss in some chocolate chips if you like, and eat it fast before someone steals it out of your hands!
flashback: when ella was a little more than two years old, we had a snowfall and caught just a bit of it in a bowl. however, i didn't actually know how to make snow ice cream then. so i asked ella how to make it and she said, "all we need is snow, ice, and cream!". we put the snow in a coffee can, added some ice, and poured on some cream. then we put it in the freezer "because it needs to be cold and dark". while she wasn't looking, i poured out the snow/ice/cream mixture and replaced it with purity dairies snow cream. she was ecstatic that her recipe had worked! it was a wonderful day.
*we got an ice cream maker this past summer from aldi and loved it--we used it so much that we broke the paddle off it. :D if you get an ice cream maker, i recommend one that has a bowl you can freeze, rather than the kind that requires ice and salt. store the bowl in the freezer and you will be ready anytime you want fresh homemade ice cream.
